Alone in the City
ERHAN CORAL
He is an Istanbul-based photographer working primarily in street, documentary, and travel photography. His interest in photography began during his teenage years, long before he pursued a career in finance. After two decades in the financial sector, he decided to dedicate himself fully to photography.
His work explores the relationship between people and the environments they inhabit, with particular attention to everyday life, human behavior, and the often-overlooked moments that reveal something about contemporary society.
The photographs have received international recognition through competitions, publications, and exhibitions. His approach remains observational, guided by curiosity and an interest in the complexity of ordinary human experience.
Alone in the City explores the quiet, often unnoticed moments of solitude within the urban environment.
Cities are places of constant movement and human interaction, yet they also offer countless moments of separation, introspection, and anonymity. Through this series, I observe people who, despite being surrounded by the city and its inhabitants, seem momentarily absorbed in their own private worlds. The photographs were made across different locations, seasons, and times of day, without staging or intervention. I am interested not necessarily in loneliness, but in the complex relationship between individuals and the public spaces they occupy.
These are encounters with people whose stories I do not know. Rather than attempting to explain their circumstances or emotions, I prefer to leave room for interpretation, allowing viewers to bring their own experiences to the images.
